Gavin Newsom made surprising remarks on transgender athletes during his debut podcast with conservative guest Charlie Kirk.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, known for championing LGBTQ+ rights, once defied state law by issuing same-sex marriage licenses. Now, he suggests Democrats are wrong in allowing transgender athletes to compete in female college and youth sports.
Republicans are flooding the zone with content, policy, and messaging — every. single. day.

“I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness — it’s deeply unfair,” Gavin Newsom stated in his debut podcast, “This is Gavin Newsom.” “I am not wrestling with the fairness issue. I totally agree with you.”
His comments on this controversial topic emerged during a conversation with MAGA-world figure Charlie Kirk. Kirk leads Turning Point USA and has close ties to Donald Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr.
Gavin Newsom also acknowledged that Trump’s campaign effectively used attack ads highlighting Kamala Harris’ support for taxpayer-funded gender transition-related medical care for detained immigrants and federal prisoners.
“She didn’t even react to it, which was even more devastating,” Gavin Newsom remarked, suggesting that most Americans opposed Harris’ stance. “Then you had the video [of Harris] as a validator. Brutal,” Newsom added. “It was a great ad.”
Kirk pressed Newsom, a potential 2028 presidential candidate, to address AB Hernandez, a transgender high school track athlete whose performance in the women’s triple jump has sparked controversy. Newsom, a father of four—including two daughters—noted that both he and his wife competed in college sports. She played soccer, and he played baseball.
“I revere sports, so the issue of fairness is completely legit,” Gavin Newsom said. “And I saw that — the last couple years, boy did I [see] how you guys were able to weaponize that issue at another level.”
Kirk objected to Newsom’s use of “weaponize,” prompting Newsom to revise his wording to “highlight.”
