Calvin Harris’ upcoming song, “Smoke the Pain Away,” has fans wondering if he’s leaving dance music behind for good.

Calvin Harris Teases New Country-Inspired Song with His Own Vocals

Calvin Harris is preparing to release a country-influenced track, featuring his own vocals for the first time in years.

On March 5, Calvin Harris shared a 30-second teaser of his upcoming song, Smoke the Pain Away. In the video, filmed with a soft-focus effect, Harris sits strumming an acoustic guitar before stepping behind the microphone.

“Too late I’ve been up for days,” he sings. “I can’t even see straight, no I can’t smoke the pain away.” The clip showcases Harris embracing a raw, stripped-down sound.

In the caption, Harris simply wrote, “it’s coming.” This release follows Free, his 2024 collaboration with Ellie Goulding. Last year, he also dropped 96 Months, a compilation featuring his biggest hits.

Smoke the Pain Away already has support from Harris’ wife, BBC Radio 1 presenter Vick Hope, who commented, “Those vocals…YEEEESSSSS!!!” along with a fire emoji. While Harris has no scheduled performances for 2025, anticipation for his new track is growing.

Calvin Harris is not the first electronic producer to explore country influences. Avicii’s Wake Me Up pioneered the genre blend in 2013, while Diplo released country albums under his real name, Thomas Wesley. Several other producers have also experimented with country-infused dance tracks. However, it remains uncertain if Smoke the Pain Away will include any dance elements or stay strictly within the country genre.

As fans eagerly await the full release, Calvin Harris continues to expand his musical range, proving his ability to evolve with every project.
