Snow Storm Weather Forecast: Hazardous Conditions Expected in Massachusetts

A snow storm weather forecast predicts hazardous conditions across Massachusetts Thursday, with icy rain and snow. The wintry weather will arrive late Thursday morning, causing dangerous road conditions. A quick-moving system will impact southern New England, particularly during the morning commute.

Meteorologist Mike Wankum explains, “The snow can stick to roads fast, accumulating quickly as temperatures drop.” As of Wednesday afternoon, some schools canceled classes due to the snow storm weather forecast. Other districts plan to assess conditions based on the latest updates.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m. for most of Massachusetts, excluding the Cape and Islands. StormTeam 5’s A.J. Burnett notes, “While not a large storm, this will still present challenges for schools and drivers.”

Snow is expected to begin between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., accumulating 2-4 inches before transitioning to sleet or rain. These changes will make roads slippery, particularly during late morning and midday.

Wankum warns of freezing rain, saying, “This could cause dangerous icing on untreated surfaces, creating hazardous road conditions.” StormTeam 5 declared Thursday an Impact Weather Day. Meteorologist David Williams highlights the period from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as the most hazardous, with significant road concerns.

By the evening, the snow and freezing rain will taper off, easing driving conditions. However, road surfaces may still be slick due to the early-day precipitation. Friday’s weather will be mostly sunny, with temperatures reaching near 40°F, allowing some melting to occur.

A second round of snow and rain is possible by Saturday night into Sunday morning.
