Southern California, battered by relentless wildfires, experienced much-needed rain over the weekend, aiding efforts to bring the blazes near Los Angeles under control.
According to Cal Fire, the Eaton, Palisades, Hughes, and Laguna fires were all over 85% contained as of Sunday morning.
The Eaton and Palisades fires, which began nearly four weeks ago during a historic windstorm, have claimed at least 28 lives, scorched approximately 37,500 acres, and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses. Meanwhile, the Hughes Fire near Santa Clarita, which ignited on Wednesday, has burned close to 10,500 acres, though no structural damage has been reported so far.
