Wonder Woman Video Game Canceled as Warner Bros. Shuts Down Three Studios

Wonder Woman fans received disappointing news as Warner Bros. announced the cancellation of its highly anticipated video game. The company is restructuring its gaming division and shutting down three studios to focus on select intellectual properties.

As part of this shift, the development of the Wonder Woman game, first revealed in 2021, has officially ended. Warner Bros. aims to concentrate on its core franchises, including Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones, according to a company spokesperson.

The restructuring will also see the closure of Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. Monolith, the studio behind the Wonder Woman project, will shut down as part of these changes.

“Our goal was to create an exceptional experience for Wonder Woman fans, but this is no longer possible within our strategic focus,” said the spokesperson. “It was a difficult choice, as we value Monolith’s legacy in producing outstanding games.”

The spokesperson emphasized that the decision was not a reflection on the teams or their talent but a necessary shift in strategy. “We deeply appreciate the dedication of these teams and thank every employee for their contributions. Despite this, our focus remains on delivering high-quality games for our devoted fans and steering our gaming division toward profitability in 2025 and beyond.”

Since its formation in 2022, Warner Bros. has prioritized video games, with early successes like Hogwarts Legacy. The company has leveraged its vast intellectual properties, including DC Comics, where Wonder Woman remains a key character.

Unlike other entertainment giants that license their properties for gaming, Warner Bros. has historically developed in-house. However, this restructuring indicates a move away from that model, potentially altering how the company approaches game development in the future.
