What Made the Magic vs Kings Matchup a Statement Win for Orlando?

If you wanted a showcase of the Orlando Magic’s offense at its best, Wednesday’s Magic vs Kings game was it.

Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero led the way as Orlando dominated Sacramento with aggressiveness, efficiency, and ball security. They secured a commanding 130-111 victory at Golden 1 Center. “After a few tough games, I thought our effort was gritty and spirited,” said Magic coach Jamahl Mosley. “We focused on energy, teamwork, and controlling the controllables.”

The Magic shot 56.8 percent overall, their eighth time surpassing 50 percent this season. From beyond the arc, they hit 51.6 percent, marking their third 50-plus percent game from three. Turnovers were kept low, with only 11 committed, most coming late when the result was already clear.

Wagner delivered a stellar performance, scoring 31 points in three quarters. This marked his 16th straight 20-plus-point game and 11th 30-plus-point effort of the season. He was unstoppable from all areas, including drives, post-ups, step-backs, and spot-ups. He also drained five of six three-pointers.

“I just tried to be aggressive, attack, and play my game,” Wagner said.

Banchero contributed 23 points and nine assists, while Anthony Black looked much more aggressive, scoring 15 off the bench. Cole Anthony, starting, added 14 points, and Goga Bitadze finished with 14 points on perfect 7-of-7 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.

Leading by two at halftime, Orlando blew the game open in the third quarter of the Magic vs Kings matchup. Outscoring Sacramento by 19, the Magic’s 42 points that period were a season-high for any quarter. Orlando’s defense tightened up after halftime. Sacramento shot 58.5 percent before the break but struggled afterward, going 6-of-16 in the third.

For the game, Orlando outscored Sacramento by 10 in the paint and forced 19 turnovers, converting them into 28 points. In his Sacramento debut, Zach LaVine scored 13 points. Domantas Sabonis led the Kings with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while DeMar DeRozan had 19 points.

The Magic vs Kings victory sets up Orlando’s next challenge, a Thursday showdown against the Denver Nuggets at 9 p.m. ET.
