Hornets vs Lakers trade talks took a dramatic turn when Los Angeles nearly landed Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams. However, the deal collapsed due to medical concerns, leaving the Lakers scrambling for alternatives. While some fans were disappointed, Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George had a different perspective.

“Thank God the Mark Williams [deal] didn’t go through,” George said. “Good luck in the West—it’s gonna be a nightmare when you play the Lakers.”
The Lakers had agreed to send Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2031 first-round pick, and a 2030 pick swap to Charlotte for Williams. However, concerns over Williams’ long-term health forced them to back out. The 7-footer has shown promise, averaging 15.6 points on 58.6% shooting, but injuries have limited him to just 85 games over two and a half seasons.
Lakers Adjust Without Williams
With Williams no longer an option, the Lakers moved quickly, signing veteran big man Alex Len and elevating Jaxson Hayes into a key role. George acknowledged the shift, stating, “It’s going to be dynamic with Jaxson Hayes at the center position.”
Luka Doncic and LeBron James: A Deadly Duo
Beyond the Hornets vs Lakers trade drama, George focused on the Lakers’ addition of Luka Doncic. He believes Doncic and LeBron James will form a lethal partnership.
“That’s why Luka was brought in—to take pressure off Bron,” George explained. “Defenses now have to pick their poison.”
George also emphasized Doncic’s chemistry with athletic centers, suggesting Hayes could thrive in the system.
Lakers Remain a Major Threat
Despite missing out on Williams, George sees the Lakers as a top contender. With Doncic, James, and Hayes, the Hornets vs Lakers matchups will be must-watch games this season.
