Thousands Return to Northern Gaza Amid Ceasefire and Hostage Negotiations

Thousands of Palestinians are walking back to northern Gaza, carrying their belongings, following a deal between Israel and Hamas to release six hostages this week.

In footage from Wadi Gaza along the Gaza Strip coastline, large groups of people are seen returning on foot, clutching their possessions. Northern Gaza has been left heavily damaged after intense Israeli airstrikes.

The return, initially scheduled for the weekend, was delayed due to a dispute involving an Israeli civilian hostage, Arbel Yehud, who remains in Hamas custody. On Saturday, Hamas freed four soldiers but did not release Yehud, prompting accusations from Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement.

Yehud and two other hostages are now expected to be released on Thursday.

Earlier in the conflict, Israeli forces had urged civilians to evacuate northern Gaza, displacing hundreds of thousands of residents.
