A quiet resistance against President Donald Trump is emerging in Latin America following his decision to use military aircraft to transport deportees in handcuffs.
The U.S. military’s history of intervention in Latin America has made this move particularly controversial. While Mexico has typically accepted U.S. chartered deportation flights, it appeared to reject the use of military planes.
Both Colombia and Brazil criticized the conditions under which deportees were returned, with Colombia halting deportation flights entirely on Sunday.
In a significant break from decades of cooperation, Mexico refused to accept a U.S. Air Force C-17 deportation flight last Thursday, marking the first such refusal in years, as initially reported by NBC News.
