Rep. Al Green, a Texas Democrat, announced on Wednesday that he was filing new impeachment articles against President Trump. Green’s move comes after Trump’s controversial comments regarding U.S. involvement in Gaza. The Texas lawmaker has previously made several unsuccessful impeachment attempts during Trump’s first term.
In a speech on the House floor, Green expressed his frustration, saying, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Injustice in Gaza threatens justice in the U.S.” He continued, stating, “I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun. I will bring articles of impeachment against him for his actions.”
Throughout Trump’s first term, Rep. Al Green launched multiple impeachment efforts using procedural maneuvers designed to bypass House leadership and committees. These efforts were unsuccessful, and there is little support among Democratic lawmakers for impeaching Trump at this time.
Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.), the third-ranking House Democrat, was asked about Green’s new measure and stated that it was not a priority for the caucus. While Green’s actions have sparked controversy, there is still no widespread enthusiasm within the Democratic Party to pursue impeachment at this point.
Green’s latest impeachment bid highlights his ongoing dissatisfaction with Trump’s leadership, especially after recent remarks about Gaza. His attempts reflect his continued push for accountability despite the lack of significant backing from other Democrats.
